The first Bank Holiday weekend in May my daughter and I took a mini break to Sandwich. As well as sitting lackadaisically on the harbour wall at Whitstable whilst playing scrabble, watching the fishing boats come back and eating icecream in the blazing sunshine we took some time to visit old friends in the area - yes, I am talking about May2013! We spent one day with my daughter’s Godmother an old school friend of mine who I have known for 46years.
What a blessing friends are especially those “old ones” who it is so comfortable to be around rather like a well wore and thus unique pair of shoes that have moulded themselves to fit around the idiosyncrasies of our particular feet. Bliss on those long walks.
Have you seen the slogan, “Friends are the family you choose for yourself”? Is that sometimes true? I have some amazing friends that have certainly been a great blessing to me over the years and for whom I am very grateful. I never cease to be amazed that the Creator of the universe wants to be known to us in the intimacy of close friendship all made possible through Jesus, God the Son. He is my oldest and most faithful “friend” and has promised never to leave me or forsake me and He never has. Have you ever come across these words taken from an old hymn by the late Joseph Scriven?
What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit,O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful…?
I hope there is some more sunshine to come this year and that you are able to enjoy the company of your friends.

Re: Proposed Alterations in Cowden Parish Church
The PCC have recently agreed proposals to site a disabled toilet in the church vestry and consequently to remove the pews in the north aisle. There would be a ramp up from the north aisle, into a discreet toilet entrance, where the Children’s Corner is presently sited and we would lose some vestry space.
Due to the ramp a new Children’s Corner space would be allocated in the north aisle and due to loss of some vestry space the present free standing vestry cupboards would be relocated - most probably be in the west end of the north aisle. We would also plan to have a refreshments table in the north aisle area and thus cease serving refreshments off the top of our pews!
